Group Leader at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) in Amsterdam, where he leads an integrative structural biology group focused on the cellular mechanisms of cancer. His team integrates X-ray crystallography, small-angle scattering, cryo-EM, NMR, and biochemical/biophysical methods in vitro and in cells. Best known for co-developing the ARP/wARP software package for automated model building in X-ray crystallography (cited more than 5,000 times) and for leading the PDB-REDO initiative, which re-refines and improves the models in the public PDB archive.
