Joint Head of the Neurobiology Division at the MRC-LMB, Cambridge. Pioneer of research on tau protein and its role in Alzheimer’s disease and other tauopathies, and on alpha-synuclein in Parkinson’s disease. Long-standing collaborator with Sjors Scheres on cryo-EM structures of amyloid filaments from patient brain tissue, which revealed that different tauopathies are defined by distinct filament conformations.
