Protein structure validation suite developed by Gert Vriend at CMBI / Radboud University Nijmegen. WHAT_CHECK (derived from WHAT IF) performs extensive quality checks on protein 3D structures, including geometry, packing, dihedral distributions, water placement, and hydrogen bonding. A foundational validation tool that predates MolProbity and PDB-REDO; some WHAT_CHECK scores are still surfaced in wwPDB validation reports.
