Info
The International School of Crystallography operates within the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture in Erice, Sicily, Italy. Directed by Sir Tom Blundell, FRS FMedSci, it runs annual or biennial courses on topics across crystallography, structural biology, and related methods. The school is a premier international training venue where lecturers are selected from the leading experts in each topic, and attendance is by application. Being a lecturer or director signals community leadership in that topic.
DiffUSE relevance
The 2022 Erice school included the first-ever course on diffuse scattering, co-directed by Nozomi Ando (Cornell, DiffUSE team) and Andrew Goodwin (Oxford). This course brought together the protein diffuse scattering community (Ando, Meisburger, Wall, Peck, Hekstra, Ayyer) with the materials diffuse scattering community (Billinge, Goodwin, Chapman, Neder, Paddison). It was a landmark event for the field.
